Merchandising the recession. Part 2.

picture-71A few weeks back I posted about the quintessential recession marketing tool — the T-shirt. You could argue that it’s the most egalitarian form of public self-expression. (Or perhaps it was until blogs appeared.) And that post had some examples that made me laugh-out-loud (like “Scumbag Millionaires”).

You don’t need to have big bucks to pay for media. You don’t have to rely on some editor somewhere to judge your letter as print-worthy. You just have to lay put on a shirt and take to the streets. Herewith, Part 2 of Merchandising the Recession with some more entertaining entries.

IRS owned would have been a good one, too. MMM…Possibly because many owe them or is it the other way around? Ha. I guess, I am not alone in that boat either…I like them all. I am thinking about putting my own logo on a tee-shirt. Yes, to all … IRS owned; Unemployment Reality Right Here;AIG can you spare a dime?; rich but economy poor; If I were a robot, would you hire me?; Yep, I am unemplyed…You can laugh if like but you’re next! Just to name a few. And my favorit

I’ve been doing the same thing myself - making up logos to put on shirts. I’va actually got some up right now at http://www.zazzle.com/bigdaddycoolid/find/qs-/sd-desc/st-date_created

I’m especially proud of the one that reads…

“I went to a job interview and all they offered me was THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT!!!”

Mostly we miss offline advertising campaigns which can be very fruitful. Although our businesses are always being designed for global audience but I think we miss a large portion of business not to advertise offline. I am planning the similar campaign and thanks for sharing all those cool designs.

It’s quite amusing to know that enterprising people always have a nose on how to recognize opportunities. This is a perfect example of that. For sure, t-shirts such as these are always ringing the cash registers. Alvin

Surprisingly the uk economy shrank a further 0.4% between July and September (the last quarter that there are figures for), so the end of the downturn is a long way off yet - another 6 months at least i reckon, its the longest recession since records began 50 years ago and it wont be till years later the economy and property market recovers, it was’nt until the late 90’s that the property market recovered after the 89/90 recession.
